    Hi, Patti!

This is a great article for little ones, truly educational!

I do have a few suggestions for you.

Since this article is for very young children, I would like for you in simple terms to define "scientist." Also, I would love to see you include the professional names for a person who studies insects and for the weatherman. This wonderful article about Wooly Bears can also become a great opportunity to build a child's vocabulary which strengthens its appeal even more.

One word of caution: Please Google "Are Wooly Bears Poisonous." My understanding (as well as from personal experience), is that while Wooly Bears may not be "poisonous" in the sense that if one swallows one they could become ill, but rather that they have tiny barbs that hook into skin which can cause quite a nasty and uncomfortable rash when they break off. Thus, children would need to be aware of this. However, this "dangerous" side to Wooly Bears and their kind would just be another interesting aspect of these creatures to explore in the article.

Best of luck with this piece. I think that it will definitely find a buyer.

  3. Patti,
I wish I could be critical, in a positive way, but I can't think of anything to add to what Sheila already has said. Go for it!

Thanks to both of you for the encouragement and suggestions! I have sent this article to Humpty Dumpty; we'll see if they go for it. If I don't hear from them soon, I will revise and send it on to someone else. Merry Christmas to all!
